There isnt anything you can do to prevent an AOL'er or any other netizen from running through a board like this and trawling names. Especially since this board software is very widely used, I'd imagine that there is an agent available that will pull email addresses off a board using this software automagically.

What you can do is:

a: not include your email address in your messages. A pain for those of us that want to talk to you more personally.

b: include a bunch of garbage characters in your email address and instructions in the text of the message for their removal. This works pretty well, but the address-grabbing software is getting wise to it.

c: add the sender to your killfile, or even start adding stuff to your killfile that autonukes messages with certain hotwords. Body parts, "Live Nude", etc. This works, but sometimes you end up loosing legit mail messages by mistake.

d: ignore the spam.

Your call. Spam is a nuisance, but it is here to stay. Good luck.

BTW: I own caer.net Any email to any address at all at caer.net goes to me. If you send email to [email protected], I get it. Caer.net is extremely close to acer.net, and hordes of dyslexic taiwanese people send me email. I live with it. Sometimes, if im feeling nice, i even tell them they have made a mistake. Once i got 500 emails from a single address in a day, and I added that to my serverside killfile, so I never get mail from that particular node in taiwan anymore.
