FWIW - I drove a 2002 about a year ago that did what I think you're explaining. The car would idle fine sitting still, but if coming to a stop with the brakes engaged, the car would stall. Somehow, the vaccuum used by the brake booster pulled the engine down. Replacement of the booster fixed this problem.
