While it's settled that you and almost everyone else has an open differential, I think that the reason both tires broke loose is that the '02 is outfitted with an independent rear suspension system. With those vehicles fitted with solid rear axles, torque transmitted through the driveline will tend to unload one or the other tire. With a fixed differential casing and IRS, this is less of a problem on '02's and models outfitted similiarly. My guess. Flamesuit donned.
