: Any suggetions on a Los Angeles source for spare keys for the 2002? One mechanic claims that the car is too old and he can't get a key from BMW and the blanks are unavailable to locksmiths/keycutters. I have only the one key and am concerned what happens if I lose it.
: Thanks

I have used the Taylor key blanks for BMW 2002 with no problem. Taylor apparently went out of business many years ago, not sure who makes a blank now, if anyone.

Most hardware store key cutters will not have the Taylor blanks, but a true locksmith may have an inventory of them (I bought all available from my local locksmith as a precaution but have used them all).

I have not had luck at the dealers but apparently some on line have.

If you get in a real bind, I have several spare (l&r) door handles with multiple keys (and some without)that I would part with for cheap.
