It sounds like a faulty accel. pump. When you step on the gas the sudden drop in manifold pressure causes droplets of gas to condense out of the air in there. This causes a lean mixture which makes the engines stumble. Accel. pump adds to mixture to enrich it.
When the accel. pump is not pumping any/enough gas the engine stumbles. Can you gradually up the engine speed? If so I would say accel. pump is not putting enough extra juice into system. Adjust accel. pump to add more gas (or just clean it out if no adjustment possible).
