An alternative would be to use an adaptive spacer. In the class I race in you cannot modify the intake manifold and we are forced to use spacers. These are custom made 1/2" to 1" thick aluminum or phenolic parts to mate the carb with the manifold and do not require you to remove the manifold. I believe Pierce Manifolds in Salinas, CA may have such a thing.
