David - and others...

For all the people self-conscious about their not so perfect 2002s I have always felt the following:

I really enjoy seeing beautifully perfectly restored cars as they set a benchmark for the marque. They also display a real repect and serve as templates for originality and the craftsmanship bestowed upon them by our German heroes.

I also feel that there is an intrinsic quality to the cars that, although perhaps a bit rough around the edges, are truly LOVED by their owners. There is a certain look that some 2002s have - you can see them on the street from time to time - and you can say "this person really adores the car". They may not keep it really clean, or rust free - but they love the experience of driving it - all of it: the smells, the sounds, the feeling of superiority and fearlessness that these cars convey to the driver - THAT is the essence of 2002 ownership to me. Others with similar feelings contribute something to their cars that shows this love. So if your car isn't perfect - show 'er off anyway! They are all beautiful in their own way - each shows a different side to the real value of these cars - whether it be daily city warrior, museum art, - or back road sleeper - The wonderful quality of these cars is that they are all these things!

The more 2002s I see at shows - the bigger my smile gets - no matter what!

OK Sermon over!
