Grind the hell out of the rust till the metal shines. Take it to a welder and have him plug those holes. DO NOT use bondo or filler.

Go buy some POR 15 (website here) and slop it over every micrometer of metal up there. That should stop rust for a long, long time. A new roof would be a huge PITA.

: well its basically just surface rust except for two pinhole size spaces where its eaten through. i would grind it down and take care of the rust but i have absolutely no idea what im doing. i dont know how far i should take it down and what i should put on it to prevent rust. any suggestions?

: : I guess it depends on how serious the rust is. Cutting and welding a roof can't be cheaper than getting rid of surface rust with a grinder or wire brush. Both will evidently require a lot of hand work before painting.
