The screwdriver technique worked. The sleeves outside the O-ring were corroded. I think that was jamming the piston. Hoses probably could be replaced, but that will come later.

John..got the parts from Bimmer Parts in Pottstown. The rebuild kit is expensive for what you get, but I didn't have time to shop. The part number 34111103289. And besides, if they ship UPS ground, it still gets to me overnight.

Again, thanks all. It wasn't a fun fix in 32 degree weather with wind chill, but its done and I'm on the road. Have a great Xmas.
