remove the two bolts going through the bell housing then remove the bolts at the rear of the starter to the block/remove the wires also after removing the batt neg terminal before anything.
I desmogged a 74 2002 and a 76 ;just get that pipe off underneath any way you can without wrecking any thing else.I plugged the hole in the exhaust and the hole at the end of the intake with a plate and some good sealer.
While your at it you might want to take out the charcoal canister,plug the lines;the little evap tank in the trunk,plug the lines and just have the fuel line to the carb and thats all.
