I've had a '76 2002 since new and the air pump has been disconnected for years without any problems. I did have to get a carburetor overhaul last year in order to pass the emission tests...but in prior years it was not a problem. I doubt that many, if any, of the '02's air pumps are connected and operating. And we have fairly stringent test in Dallas.
