Please keep in mind too, that today's junk is tomorrows jewel. It's my rule to not ever throw original equipment away, unless it's broken and beyond repair. I know plenty of British Car nuts and also plenty of Californians with post '73 classics who are scrambling for working air pumps. These things are not being reproduced (as far as I know) and in a state like California, the letter of the law states that you must have all original emmisions control equipment.

That having been said, after you get it smogged, it'll probably run a little nicer if you disconnect and temporarily store said equipment ;^)
