I dunno if I would have had the werewithal to restore an 02 in school but I might have been able to keep it on the road. Everyday I walked to class in college I had to walk by two sweet 2002s They were parked at the corner of the lakeshore drive (Johnson St.) right on the way to school. The were pretty original. Those dudes also had a kick ass International Scout, painted Forest Green.
In addition, the guy who prompted me to get a bimmer 02 was from Mad-town. He was a very competent bicylce mechanic. Good guy with tools. I was in a Stillwaters bar with him one night when I asked him what kind of car he would buy if I wanted to get an older but better car. He said, "I would get a BMW twenty- oh -two." I said, "A two thousand two?". "Yeah" he says,
"I had one once. Great car. Had to change a hose on it once. That was about it. BMW part was a hundred buck. I made mine. Costed me eight. I miss that car.
Oh, by the way... Stay away from fiats. Don't go near those things."
That was in maybe ninety-six. I remember because my girlfriend's buddy had a fiat. I had liked it fine, she let us drive it around a lot. So, I can remember pausing after my mechanic said that. Anyway I started looking for twenty oh two's after I got out of school, and here I am now.
