I'd recommend the 40s unless you only intend to race. You can still get parts from a couple suppliers like Pierce Manifold in Gilroy CA, but parts are harder to come by than Webers, the carbs themselves are very well made and very similar in design to DCOEs but parts won't interchange. Manifolds will work with any popular sidedraft make, but hard to find alone...the Datsun manifolds and linkage prolly won't be of any use, and VW Webers are most likely downdrafts, also useless to a BMW.
