Same story for me, after removing the head on my
73, the head is E12 but the pistons were bathtub
with the high relief type( high compr.)

No valves marks, and the cam was a modified.

My problem was broken rings in one cylinder.
The engine was very strong but trowing oil
all over the engine bay.
