: I know most of you recommend that a professional do the job but I'm bullheaded and decided to attempt it myself. I already have the windshield and gasket removed, but I was wondering if there is an easy way to remove all the crud left behind from the gasket. Also is it necessary to glue the new gasket in or apply glue where the glass seats? It seems logical, but I thought I'd make sure. What kind of glue would I use? Are the odds of doing this myself likely to result in a windshield that yet again leaks? Any experiences of doing it yourself with good results? Thanks for the help. -Jenny

I used polishing compound and alot of elbow grease, but you might get it with a basic cleaner wax, if you have rust it's best to touch that up too.
Don't use glue or silicone sealer (RTV) but do use a silicone spray as a lubricant. You WILL need another pair of hands to help push and hold the glass/gasket on the outside as you pull the cord on the inside. Then there's the big headache of the locking strip...use a lot of silcone spray in the groove and try to keep if off your hands since it makes them very slippery. I would use the Lisle tool with the largest tip to really open up the slot as you feed the strip in. Takes a bit of strength and much patience, if you get in 90% in, you can touch up the curves with a smooth screwdriver or a pick to ease it in. Or buy a long length of black ignition wire instead of lock strip, and it goes in very easily, but don't know how easily it pops out! Good luck!
