Unless it's your shift linkage, I would go looking for a good used gearbox from a salvage yard. This could also be a good time (and excuse) to upgrade to a 5speed. Remember, you can also use the 4 speed tranny from a 320i up to '79. Usually when a gear is fried, it's not worth the money to pull it apart and fix it. 4-speeds are pretty common, and fairly cheap. The 5-speed conversion is a bit more involved, but there's a lot of literature and info out there (check the archives). hope this helps.
