: Hello Big Dog. I think the heat shield you are talking about is a fiber glass + resin shield that has the exhost manifold gaskets attached to it. I think you have it upside down. The shield is there to keep the heat away from the Plug Wires. I run Stahle Header and I DO NOT use the heat shield, just the gaskets. No problems over the last 10,000 miles.
