can't get the handbrake cable loose!! suggestions? (archive)

changing one of the cables on the handbrake. no problem with unhooking it at both ends. but where the cable fits into to cable housing tube (running from about a foot from the rear wheel forward to where it feeds up into the car) the cable has rusted tight into the tube. try as i might i can't seem to get it to budget! any suggestions on how i might get it to break free (no pun intended) would be greatly appreciated. thanks in advance to all you 02 wizards who may have been down this road already.
