Definitely check out http://www.bimmers.com/02/ on their list of what to look for in a '02. Also check out www.bayarea02.com. There is a feature article on buying a '02. Lastly, rust is the primiary silent killer of '02s. If you check out the '02 Webring, you find "Neu Klasse". On that particular website, there is a technical section on rust locations in a '02. Lots of jpegs.

If you have the time, get a copy of Mike Macartney's "BMW '02 Restoration". It's available at many '02 speciality parts houses, Amazon.com, etc.

Definitely do your homework and you end up with a '02 to fit your needs and budget.
