big brake pad sugestions (archive)

I'm in the process of installing big brakes on my '02, using '77 320i vented rotors, '80 320i hubs, '83 240 series volvo calipers, and 530 master cylinder. 1)I'm wondering what pads I should use. My girlfriend has an '83 245 volvo that will throw you through the windshield if you lay your pinky toe on the brake pedal to hard( I consider this a good thing!). She just had a brake job ( not sure what kind of pads were installed) and her car squeels like a stuck pig. the mechanic told her that it was a characteristic of volvo brakes.
2) anyone put rear disc's on? What did you use? Do you need a proportioning valve?
