In my '76 M2002 (transplanted M3 engine) I've got the usual big brake setup front and rear. After conferring with Larry at Carbotech, I went with Hawk Blue pads up front, and Carbotech shoes for the rear. In my experience stopping with this combination is like throwing out an anchor! I've had no brake fade running the full course at Sebring (FL), which is notoriously hard on brakes. Of course, this combination is too screechy and hard on rotors for everyday use, so I use PBR deluxes for the street.
