One factor you didn't mention is the question of progressive vs. linear rate springs. Personally, I think that progressives are the way to go on the street. I have Eibachs with Bilstein Sports, and the car is about as low as I would want it for the street.

I believe you can set up coilovers for progressive rate, which would probably be the best option, but for the cost. If you cut the stock springs, you'll get increased rate, but no progression. One other possibility - there was an article in European Car (last month I think) about springs and such that mentioned progressive bump stops that are now used by manufacturers to create a progressive suspension travel with linear rate springs. That might be something you want to play with if you cut the stock springs.

: It's getting warmer here in Wisconsin and my attention is turning back to the upcoming suspension project. I checked, and thouroughly read the archives on this matter but it would be helpful to get some final input from those who have traveled this road.
: I would like to drop my 02's ride height by 2 inches. I am not looking for a race suspension, just an improvement in overall appearance. My 02 is not a daily driver but I don't want to render it useless for average street driving. I stay on relatively flat roads, however, and rarely, if ever, have to drive down alleys. As I understand it I have a few choices:

: Coil-overs in front-pros-very adjustable/cons-harsh ride,expensive---
: Questions:how much are they and what brand should I be getting/ Do I order inserts for a Rabbit?

: Cut the existing springs. Sounds ok by me so far but what do I know? Has anyone done this and regretted it? I have the tools and skill to do this so I'm seriously considering it due to the fact that I can make the ride height exactly what I want.

: Buy shorter springs i.e. H&R or Eibach. Pros-Not too expensive and relatively easy/cons-sounds to me that most manufacturers drop the ride height by only an inch or so.

: I know this topic has been pretty much played out but if you wouldn't mind it would be helpful to get some feedback from those who have done each of these things. I'm pulling the trigger on this project this week and would rather not make a big mistake-Bob. Thanks in advance
