Alternate side-draft setup? (archive)

This is probably a shot in the dark, but I'll ask anyway: Has anyone ever thought about mounting side-draft Webers using tii (metal, not plastic) intake runners? That is to say, mounting the carbs so they face the opposite of usual, and sit over the valve cover where the tii plenum normally would? I know this would require some engineering, though I'm not sure how accomodating the tii runners would be to this sort of thing. I know Mopar had a cross-ram 383 back in the early 60s that hung the carbs way out and had extrememly long intake runners for increased torque - might be an interesting engineering exercise to see if the Bavarian equivalent could be produced...
