: Make yourself a favor and buy aftermarket wires,
: with rubber tips.

Be careful, though, when selecting those tips. I bought some mondo-$$$ Magnecor KV-85 wires last year from a reputable 02 supplier, and at PPIR they kept popping-off the plugs (which is a bad thing) (note that the Magnecor connectors require the little screw-on caps at the end of the plugs). Luckily, I had brought the old set along and they worked out. I've still got the Magnecors, but right now they're sitting on a shelf in the garage. I just got a set of wires from Will Turner, that have bakelite Beru connectors that seem decent on them -- I'll report back how they work once I've had a chance to run with them.

The key with the bakelite connectors is to pull straight-out -- anchor your hand on the head and pull with your fingers.

HTH.
