I removed the tail light, and removed all the bulbs. The silver plating is pretty much extinct. I used a dremmel with a wire brush to remove the remaining plate and to smooth out the corroded sections. Then I switched to a buffing pad ont he dremmel and added some polishing compound. You'll go through a bunch of the pads, but the end result is stunning. The I used the Eastwood clear coat product for buffed items. It is MUCH shinier than anything else on my old bimmer.
