All the classic blown headgasket signs:
water in oil, oil in water, mayo in valvecover, white smoke in exhaust.
Alot of the time my cracked head would stop smoking once the engine heated up.
Pull it, clean it, look for cracks. Metric mechanic website has some good pointers on where to look for the most common crack locations. Evidently the #3 exhaust is the most common place, thats where mine went.
You can have it welded/repaired, but the question is whether or not its really worth it. Alumatech has bare replacement heads under $400, newly cryogenically treated. Jack Fahuna usually has some good deals on heads as well, thats where I got mine. You will want to replace a head with a same series head unless you know for sure you have 121 pistons under a later head, then you can revert to the 121 head and gain some compression/power.
