I responded to Brett privately - so as to save a bit of bandwidth - but it comes down to production costs vs. demand, vs. labor and tooling costs. Little of the cost is caused by outright "greed" as many might suggest. The price increases even make ME angry! I scrape by just to keep mine alive too!

Imagine how many grilles BMW will sell over the next 15 years....maybe a couple of hundred - MAYBE? And the tooling repair / manufacture cost is several hundred thousand dollars - remember they're refurbishing machinery that is at least two decades old. Also consider the average wage of the German worker and the strength of Western European unions.

With the Western European community becoming ever more environmentally aware - think about what it must cost to anodize or chrome plate ANYTHING West of Poland. (That's why so many Western companies have located plants in Eastern countries - far fewer environmental / worker costs - think: Trabant!

There's more that I already sent to Brett personally as a full explanation - but the bottom line is:

I TOO AM AN ETHUSIAST! I'd also HATE to see these cars get too expensive to own! I only own one car - a 2002 - I don't plan on having any overseas holidays using the money I earn from selling headlight grilles.

It hurts us all to see these cars become expensive to fix / restore. Anyone who's done battle with an insurance company will know EXACTLY what I mean.

We're working on it guys....and asking for lower consumer prices from BMW.....because If you can't afford to buy parts - I can't sell them - - and I enjoy what I do!

All the Best -

Fellow obsessed and insane 2002 lover/ owner
