: the 02 project for this weekend will be repacking the wheel bearings on my 72tii. this may be a silly question but i was wondering if there is any particular types of grease that is best to use? hoping that repacking the rear wheel bearings especially will eliminate a suspicious sounding whistling that i can just barely hear coming from somewhere in the back. only had the car about two months so i have no idea when the wheels were last repacked.
I bought a 74 2002 in early Jan ,and immediatly changed the gear oil in the transmission, also the engine oil ( filter also),and the differential lube also ,however i haven't done the wheel bearings yet. Whenever i acquire a used Bimmer i always change the fluids because you haven't a clue when it's been done last and to play it safe. That " WHISTLING" could be from the exhaust, but if you are going to do something for the rear bearings ,do it right and buy new ones press them in and use a hi-temp bearing grease on them.
