I saw an article in the Sept. 92 European Car about a Rotary in a 320i. I think they used a Mazda RX-7 transmission as well, but adapted it to the BMW's driveshaft. Probably not as easy as an E-30 6 cylinder swap, but I'm sure it would have better balance.
