I tested mine in a pot of boiling water and a meat thermometer prior to installing it...guess what..my "new" T-stat wasn't working to good. Maybe that is your problem. You could test it or maybe pull it out all together and run it for a few minutes without any thermostat to see if that is the culprit....good luck John L
