: OK, now, I haven't gotten around to going to the garage and finally finishing the electronic ignition job yet (bitterly cold weather on weekends...and horridly sick weeks) but I just to get something clarified before I get to it. I'm overly paranoid about screwing up my car so I want to get it right the first time. And speaking of time, here's my question.....Does the '76 2002 have the markings on the fan belt pulley for TDC, top dead center, for setting the timing? What is the exact process for setitng it and where does the marking have to be when setting the distributor with the rotor arm? TIA. BTW......it's my b-day tomorrow, and I smell some new upgrades!

Timing procedures are outlined in any good '02 shop manual. Hint; find/verify TDC first using the number 1 piston. If your car has a smog pump type crank pully then it should be marked with OT, Z & ZI. Where OT=TDC Z= 3 deg BTDC and ZI= 25 deg BTDC. The lower T-chain cover should have a nub on it that "points" to the marks on the pully.
I've been instructed by BMW techs that it is a good idea set the timing via the fly-wheel, but the crank pully marks work just fine. Remember "there's more than one way to skin a cat".
Hope this helps and happy B-Day!
