: Tim,
:I agree with Ron, except I did not have to loosen the trans. mount. Once the center bearing is disconnected from the body, the drive shaft will be able to pull away from the trans. The manual warns to tighten the bolts by the nuts only.

Have fun!

: : i was crawling under my 72 this morning and while looking for the transmission end of the speedo cable (still don't know where it is - if anyone can offer some advice i'd appreciate it - want to disconnect both ends and spray wd-40 in from top until it runs out bottom) and while looking happened to glance at my guibo. there is a crack in it that runs next to one of the bolts and goes about halfway through the thing. now, two weeks ago i hadn't a clue what a guibo was but did some homework on it to figure it out. ok, now i know where it is and what it does. what i don't know is, with a crack like that, do i need to replace it? how hard are they to replace? etc. both haynes and the shop manual point to removal of the drive shaft as well. is that also necessary? any other advice is appreciated. oh, BTW, how safe is it to drive?
: : TIA, tim
