Heater core bypass.. pros and cons? (archive)

I'm at the beginning of failure, not leaking to the floor but lots of steam on the windshield. I'll only be driving in the summer, so I thought to bypass the core altogether and for now, leave it in there.

Couldnt find anything in the archives. Should I use brass or PVC elbows?
