: Any advice on 2 possibly related, possibly hydraulic problems?
: 1. Two days ago my tii started making a kinda whirring/ticking noise, frequency responsive (pitch rises with revs) which seems to be coming from back of engine. Depress clutch, and the noise goes away. Car also seems to be a bit more difficult to get into gear, especially reverse. I did have a crunchy unintentional shift into reverse the day before I noticed the noise.
: 2. Removed front wheels today to change over to bottlecap alloys (325s not 2002s, alas) and found on both wheels that pads were contacting rotors in a pretty firm embrace. I could rotate hubs, but not spin them. Car seems to move normally on the road, but I wonder if the calipers are screwed up.
: Waiting for Motive Prod. brake bleeder to arrive -- but before hydraulogical explorations begin, any thoughts, revelations or suggestions are welcome -- Thanks!

I tried to downshift into 1st gear in the heat of an autocross and not only once but twice shoved it into reverse, made a ticking, whirring noise all the way home and for days afterwards. Damaged reverse gear and had to pull the transmission and replace reverse gear, ouch!

If you still have the original rubber brake hoses, (from the body to the struts or on the rear drums) on your 1974 tii, REPLACE THEM NOW! This cost me a left hip back in 1986. The rubber brake hoses will swell shut or swell enough to allow the brake's mastercylinder pressure to push fluid through them but they are to restrictive to allow the caliper's pistons to retract. First they start to drag, then pull and at some point stick or lock, which is what happened to me.

I had to jump on the brakes once in the wet to avoid someone and locked the left front caliper, spun the car into oncoming traffic, hit an LTD, and totaled my '72 Colorado 2002 along with my hip, later found the rubber brake hose problem.
