diff outputflange question (archive)

here is my presented question..
on a 3.9 diff (320i)the ones with the 8mm holes, the out put flanges just pop out..
on the 3.64 diffs (2002 and 320i)do they also pop out?
On my 73 2002 I am trying to remove the output shafts and I figured that they should just pop out with a screw driver? Am I doing somthing wrong...?
