: What you're referring to is a rotary compressor. You can use the Bosch compressor from a 318i or M3 and modify the bracket to work on a '02. The other option is to contact ICE A/C (www.iceac.com) in San Diego. They sell a complete kit or parts which includes a bracket and Sanden compressor.
: The only serious problem with the converiosn is that R12 refrigerant is being phased out. The price of R12 had gone up to 10X what were paying several years ago.
: The new R-134 (I think that's the right number) is less efficent but pollutes the environment less. It may not be compatible with the Behr evaporator and receiver/dryer. Anyway you look at it, it's not going to be a simple fix.
