Just thought I would relate what I did last august. My 71 2002 came with Behr A/C, and a dead york compressor. I managed to find a good compressor from a late 325, which I fabbed a bracket for from a couple of peices of angle iron, had new hoses made, and plumbed the thing in to the system along with a new filter-dryer.
For refridgerant issues read up at
http://www.aircondition.com/
on the topic of alternative refridgerants.
I used a mix of propane and isobutane as a refridgerant. This is definately not legal, although I think it might be legal in Australia, which I am not. Anyway, the thing cools great, in fact better than the stock system did originally, I think.
As a disclaimer, this is not for the faint of heart, or the novice back yard mechanic.
Please dont smoke while you do this either...

>: I am restoring a '74 tii with the Behr A/C unit. It has the York compressor and I have read that a substitute can be used in its place that is more reliable. My ? is, Which compressor makes a good substitute and Where can I find a mount for it? I would rather not have to fabricate a mount if I don't have to. I searched the arhcives without any luck. Is there anyone out there that can give me some advice?
