That really doesn't sound good. Where is the gas shooting from? This may sound silly, but it's possible that one of the venturis is in upside down. That's the only thing I can think of, and I could be wrong. Did you put a different jetting on your carb when you rebuilt it? If so, you might need to retime the car, as the previous post said. I started my car to see if I could limp it down to the mechanic to get the motors swapped, and it exhibited the same symptoms as yours is, minus the gas thing. It wouldn't stay running long, but I attribute that to the fact I used a different carb, but soon the motor got way too hot and I had to turn it off (I'm having some pretty serious head issues). SO I would have someone keep the car running by being on the gas while you static time it. If you can get it running well enough for it to idle, you can use a light to get the timing right. Oh yeah, I thought of something else. before you do that, make sure all the vaccuum hookups got reattached. There's a lot of silly lines on the later 2002's, and a leak or two could cause the car to not run at all, or very poorly. Hope this helps! -alan 74 02 79 320i
