: Working on getting my newly acquired wrecked '71 engine running to see if the engine seems OK to transplant. Finally got oil pressure, but having problems with the distributor. In the wreck the dizzy was bumped a little against the firewall, but I don't think it was damaged (just broke the cap and rotor - I hope.)
: The distributor turns a little stiff - probably from sitting out in the rain. (Car was supposedly covered, but without a cap or hood, I can only imaging what went down the distributor!)
: Went to put the dizzy from my regular '71 in it's place, and found that this one turns the opposite direction! Distributor # is 0 237 002 040. It has some form of an electronic sensor in it going to an electronic module Bosh - 227 100 102. I was told that this car also has a different cam in it, but I know nothing about it.
: Question: Can anybody tell me what the distributor is out of, and does the electronic ignition match up? What possible cam might it be? (Distributor turns the opposite way than an '02, has the vacuum pot opposite, but vacuum was evidently not used with the Weber 40DCOEs.)
: Also, any better way to get the shaft out to clean it up? My references indicate that you drill out the dowel pin with a 3mm drill to get the gear off to disassemble the thing. Looks like it might come out with careful support of the shaft and a drift. Any other ideas on checking this thing out and getting it turning easier - or replacement?
: A great big thanks for the help
