about the "smart muffler"...mercedes was the first to develop it(on the v-12) more recently nissan started using them (i believe on the new maxima)...at higher rpm a valve opens and the exhaust goes straight through the muffler at low rpm the valve is shut and the muffler performs as normal...i dont know if the valve is electronic or pressure activated..
