Note the date (May 1988) It was known as EXUP. Ferrari uses it on the 550 Maranello.
I'm more interested in dynamic noise cancellation. I saw a TV story on Lotus' development of a system which let them run open pipes that ran silently. They did this by actively sampling the "noise" waves of the exhaust and reproducing them with a loud amplifier 180 degrees out of phase. The result was an electro/acoustically muffled exhaust. Even cooler was when the dialed the 4 cylinder turbo motor to sound like a sampled 12 cylinder Ferrari motor. Anyone else know anything about this technology?
