missing a cylinder (archive)

hey yall, one quick question here. My 2002 isn't running to well now. It is really missing. I can take off the spark plug wire for cylinder number 1 and it runs exactly the same indicating that, the cylinder is not working. I am sure the wire is bad, or the plug went bad. I have 2 questions. Could this make my car sometimes run on after I shut off? Secondly, is there a chance that the wire is fine and that the timing or dwell is way off?
