Ok, Remove the panel (remove the two knurled knobs on the back and loosen the speedo cable. Now gently push on the posts that the knobs were on so you can grab the panel and pull it out. Then take the speedo out of the panel. You can see there is a shaft with a gear on one end that runs through the odometer part. Take a punch and gently remove the shaft and be careful not to jostle the thing around since you need to put it back in later. Also be careful of the speedo needle as they break easy.
Now you have to drift off the gear from one end of the shaft and tap the shaft onto the gear on the other end. What has happened is that too much turning of the reset has worn the shaft I believe. In any case, after you have put the gear on the other end of the shaft, replace the shaft carefully and you will have to tap it into place.
Then while you have it out, take out the other two gauges and clean the glass and panel carefully, replace the bulbs and put it back together. From now on, don't use the reset except in extreme situations. Like do you really need to know how many miles you drove on the last tank of gas--or would you rather your odometer work. You can always make a notation on a piece of paper.
Put the whole thing back together using care when putting the speedo cable back in not to force it or jam it. Should work fine now.
