: Fan belt - also check the alternator mounting bushings. If these are rotted (the rubber tends to turn to mush), adjusting the belt is next to impossible, and can let the alternator pulley rub against the fan shroud (if you have one). Even if the bushings are OK, I recommend replacing them with urethane.
