Saturday I rebuilt the linkage on my '72 with all new parts, including two runbber things in the shift lever, two ball cups, two bushing at the bottom of the linkage, a spring, and I think something else. Total cost, much less than $15 and an afternoon. You need to disconnect the exhaust and drop the driveshaft at the center and front for easy access, but that is more annoying than anything else.
Rebuilt shifter is tight as a drum. Its great.
