: Hi, I am converting my auto to 5 speed. The auto crankshaft hole where the pilot bearing would fit is only 20mm dia. & seems to have a plug/shim in it. Any ideas on how to get this thing out so that I can fit the g/box pilot bearing? There does not seem to be any space (or lip) at the back of the plug that I can get hold of. I thought of going to the hardware store for a Dynabolt (those things that expand when you screw them up) and screwing this in to see if I can then pull the "plug" but am worried I may just mess the whole thing up. (The crank is newly ground & just refitted to the motor - stupid to miss this problem when it was all in pieces!) TIA

i had the same problem when i converted my 79 528i from auto to 5 spd. i did not remove this plug, instead installed the smaller pilot bearing (needle brg type)unto this "plug". hope this helps.
