First, what you might consider doing is removing your cooling fan (probably fluid-clutched?--the one that is mounted to the water pump). If you're really interested in cooling your car VERY VERY WELL, you can do better than the Volvo 240T radiator. The stock radiator from those cars is only a two-core, and you can get a common upgrade called a Nissens radiator (common upgrade in the Volvo Turbo world, anyways). This radiator is all metal and has three cores, costs $178 brand spankin' new, and is roughly the same size as the Volvo 240/740T radiator. I have one in my 300hp Volvo 240 Intercooled Turbo monster, keeps the temp at 1/4 max. Next, get the intercooler out of a 200/700 series Volvo Turbo (late 240T's and all 700T's - I have a few laying around). I guess you can adapt the intercooler to fit in front of the engine w/o much trouble. Make sure you have the mounting brackets for the intercooler and radiator from the 200/700 Volvo Turbo car. Obviously, mount the intercooler in front and the radiator directly behind it, and use a 16" electric cooling fan (e.g. Mr. Gasket, etc, from somewhere like Summit Racing---they're cheap) and run the thermoswitch to either the rear of the radiator (i.e. on the rearward-facing side of the radiator) or plumb it into the bottom radiator hose where the hose meets the radiator, use some silicone to seal, and go to town. Might also want to check out Evans coolant if you're gonna go balls out, it's some fantastic stuff. Feel free to email me directly w/questions or to help decipher the babbale I've left behind. Good luck and let us know what happens!
: After running into a bus I have a cracked radiator in a 75 02 with a mazda 12A turbo (hitachi). Have heard that a Volvo 245 rad will fit with a little surgery--would also like to use volvo intercooler which bolts in front of rad. Will this work? How much structural integrity might I lose w/0 all that sheet metal in front of rad? From Down Under, Thx.
