: I need to know how I can make sure the defroster/heating element is working in a rear window that I am planning to get off a car I have located in a junk yard. I have an ohm meter, but am not sure what readings I should get, or if there is another way to tell.

You can test a defogger two ways- carry in a car or mototcycle battery and hook it up. You will feel the glass get warm. If you use a meter-get a digital one- you are looking for a resistance of no more or less than 2 ohms. More will not allow enough current to flow for heating, and less provides no resistance to heat up. Most likely you will get an open circuit. I tested a dozen or so , including a few at 2002ad, they were very cooperative- but never did find one that had anything going for it, much less that had all elements working. Ended up buying new from BMW.

Jonathan- with everything working on 2002- including a big red (former seat belt) warning light for the defogger.
