Yep, it's a common problem. Try splicing into the brown wire on the back of the instrument panel and running a separate ground wire to the closest ground connection. You should also clean each ground connection on the car. Sand it to bare metal on both body and terminal, secure tightly and paint or put a dab of silicone over the connection to prevent further corrosion.
